Interested in running a Project Band in your town?

We are looking to expand our network of sites and bring Project Band to more of the UK. If you are experienced in teaching bands and musical groups, we invite you to email, telling us about yourself. We look forward to hearing from you.

1. Who Are We?As a budding or hobby musician, there’s nothing better to develop your musical skills and have fun at the same time than playing in a band with other like-minded people, guided by an expert tutor. Project Band, founded by Simon Currie, saxophonist with The Manfreds since 2001, does exactly that. Project Band welcomes players of saxophones, flute, clarinet, brass plus piano, guitar, and rhythm section aged 16+ to play modern pops, soul, funk, and jazz in an enjoyable and nurturing band setting.

2. The Music

  • Each arrangement is scored for 5-part harmony front line and rhythm section.

  • Instruments provided include 4 flutes, 4 alto saxes, 4 tenor saxes, 4 trumpets, 1 trombone, and 1 baritone sax. The rhythm section consists of 2 pianos, 2 guitars, bass, and drums. There is a members area with play-along videos that match the arrangements. Each band size can be as large as the hall space provided. For example, Newbury has 23 members, Abingdon has 15 and Reading has 17.

  • All musical arrangements and backing tracks are available on the Project Band website, so sight-reading isn’t necessary. Confident players will also have opportunities to develop improvisation skills during sessions.

  • The repertoire includes popular tunes like Happy (Pharrell Williams), Uptown Funk (Bruno Mars), Ain’t No Sunshine (Bill Withers), I Shot the Sheriff (Eric Clapton), and many more. Each session will feature a mix of new tracks and old favorites with 66 tunes to chose from.

3. more About the members Area

    • Mix 4: Focused on part 4s.

    • Mix 5: Baritone/Trombone parts.

4. How Much Can You Earn? And What Are Your Costs?

All income generated is entirely yours. You’ll manage the billing process directly, giving you full control of your earnings. Best of all, your monthly fee remains fixed, no matter how much revenue your music classes generate!

  • Each student pays you:

    • Winter: 13 x £15 = £195

    • Spring: 11 x £15 = £165

    • Summer: 11 x £15 = £165

Unlike many other music franchises, we won’t ask you to pay thousands of pounds upfront before you start. Instead, you’ll pay:

  • An initial fee of £300 and receive 10 arrangements for your first season of 11/13 weeks.

  • A fixed £100 monthly license fee that doesn’t fluctuate regardless of your earnings.

  • Thereafter, 5 new arrangements are given to you free every term (so far there are 66 to choose from).

We recommend running 3 terms per year, aligned with state school schedules, totalling 35 rehearsals annually: 13 in Winter, 11 in Spring, and 11 in Summer. However, you can structure the terms as you prefer. Band sizes can expand to fit the venue. For example, Newbury hosts 23 members, Abingdon 15, and Reading 17.

Sample of Yearly Income:

  • 10 people in the band: £5,250 per year

  • 15 people in the band: £7,875 per year

  • 20 people in the band: £10,500 per year

These figures are gross income before deducting franchise fees and hall hire.

Project Band Website Access Fee: Each student pays £10 monthly to the Project Band website to gain access to the rehearsal videos and information.

5. What Is a Project Band Music Licensee?

As a partner, you will sign a contract with Project Band, granting you permission to use our copyrighted materials. This includes a dedicated webpage for your advertising (e.g., “Project Band [Your Town Name]”) and a defined postcode area where you can operate your sessions.

6. What You Will Need

  • Public liability insurance

  • Venue hire for rehearsals

  • Monthly license fee to Project Band (£100)

8. Advertising Your New Band and Our Commitment to You

  • We’ll create a landing page for your band, complete with your chosen email address. All student inquiries will be directed to you.

  • You’ll need to set up a Facebook Page to share in local groups. We’ve found that sharing posts in Facebook Groups works better than paid ads.

Don’t worry—you won’t be left to develop your sessions from scratch. We’ll provide initial advice, and you’re welcome to observe or participate in rehearsals at Newbury, Abingdon, or Reading at no cost.

9. Finding Venues for Your Classes

Most licensees hire venues such as local halls to run their classes. These typically cost between £15 and £20 per hour. Many venues offer discounted rates for community use, so always negotiate the best possible price for your spac
